Blinds That Put Child Safety First
When choosing your window blind, you want to know that it will complement your decor, give you privacy, and provide the shading from the sun that you require.
If you have young children, child safety legislations are now in place which means that blinds must have safety devices as standard (break away tassels/connectors, cord securing clips) as well as cord lengths adjusted.ย However there are blinds you can get which are totally cord free. We encourage you to consider these for complete child safety.
Cord Free Blinds
Senses Roller Blinds
No chains or loops make Senses ‘Slow-Rise’ the safer option. The Senses ‘Slow-Rise’ is a chain and cord ‘loop free’ system making it one of the safest roller blind systems available on the market today. We also offer a standard chain operated Senses system with a full range of safety components and additional aesthetic features.
Motorised Blinds
You can now control most blinds with a wire free, recharge motor, no need for any control chains and very easy to use.
Senses Venetian and Pleated (Tension Controlled)
New Range to the Senses family, Venetian and Pleated are now available with a tensioned control option, which eliminates the need for control cords making it a safer option for child safety.
Mono Control Verticals
Selecting a wand (mono) controlled Vertical blind is a key safety feature of Vertical blinds. The chain and cord used to rotate and open/close the vanes, are replaced by a single rod.
Chainless Vanes
Chainless Vanes are a standard feature of PVC Vertical blinds, however you can now select new chainless weights for fabric vanes which eliminates the need for stabilising chains, these are an additional child safety feature but also good for pet owners.
Intu Blinds
Intu blinds are specially designed without handing cords so are particular child safe. They are available as, Pleated, Cellular & Venetian.
Safety Checklist
The following checklist should help you to keep your home safe:
- Position furniture a safe distance away from windows to prevent children climbing too close to them
- Do not allow cords or chains to hang close to cots or beds, or to gather on the floor
- Do not allow cords or chains to hang free. Use one of the Safety in Mind products to secure them out of reach, or consider a cordless blind system such as INTU
- Be aware of chains on the bottom of most Vertical blinds; consider sewn-in bottom weights or chainless PVC vanes
